You already know how to train dogs. We will keep you busy doing it. We are hiring an experienced dog trainer for our Overland Park facility. This is our Level 2 trainer role. You carry your own board-and-train and day-train dogs, and after your first 90 days you earn commission on every program you train, on top of your hourly pay. You do not have to find your own clients. Hundreds of people a month contact us about their dogs. What the day looks like You carry 4 to 6 dogs a day, and each one gets 3 to 5 structured training sessions. Many of them are here for leash reactivity, aggression, or other behavior problems. You chart every dog's weight, training reps, feeding, and special instructions. You feed, keep kennels and floors clean (w/ help from a kennel tech), and help run playgroups. You lead or help with group classes. You also talk with owners about how their dog is doing, including when the answer is not what they hoped to hear. How we train We are a balanced training facility. Reinforcement comes first. Tools like prong collars and e-collars come in only after a dog has been conditioned to them, and only with the owner's okay. Every trainer here runs the same KC Dawgz system. You bring the handling skills, we teach you the system, and you run it the same way the rest of the team does. What you need to already have At least 1 year of paid dog training experience, at a training facility, in board and train, or in private lessons. Experience carrying a daily load of training dogs: several dogs a day, with sessions, charting, and care. Hands-on experience fitting and using prong collars and e-collars on dogs that were conditioned to them. Hands-on experience training leash-reactive or aggressive dogs, beyond basic obedience and puppies. Available full time, 40 to 45 hours a week, on site in Overland Park. Able to handle strong dogs and do physical work all day, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Helpful, not required: experience teaching group classes, and a certification or trainer school. Pay $17.50 an hour during your 90-day training period, while you learn our system. After 90 days: $17.50 an hour plus commission on every program you train. With commission, we expect a full-time Level 2 trainer to earn $40,000 to $50,000 a year. Commission depends on the programs you train, so the total is not guaranteed. Hours past 40 in a week are paid at time and a half. There is room to grow past Level 2: Level 3, leadership roles, and specialized behavior work, for trainers who consistently perform at a high level. What you get Your own dogs and a full schedule.
