South Street Seaport, Manhattan About Us DogHouse Daycare is a new, modern dog daycare facility in the South Street Seaport neighborhood of lower Manhattan. We're focused on safety, cleanliness, and happy dogs and customers. We are looking for reliable, energetic team members who take pride in maintaining a safe and enriching environment for the dogs in our care, as well as fellow team members. The Role Your primary goal is safety . You will be managing open-play groups, ensuring dogs interact politely, and maintaining strict sanitation standards. This is a physically active role that requires focus, patience, and a true love for dogs of all sizes and temperaments.
Key Responsibilities Supervision:
Actively monitor playgroups (10-15 dogs) to detect subtle shifts in body language. Intervene early to prevent escalation or rough play using our positive redirection methods.
Sanitation:
This job is 50% cleaning. You will promptly clean up dog waste, mop floors, sanitize water bowls, and perform deep-cleaning tasks.
Health Checks:
Perform daily "nose-to-tail" health checks on dogs entering the facility. Report any limps, cuts, or odd behaviors to management immediately.
Engagement:
Engage with the dogs! Throw balls, manage enrichment activities, and ensure every guest gets attention, not just the easiest ones. Physical Requirements Please read carefully. To be successful in this role, you must be able to: Stand and move for 6+ hours at a time: You will be on your feet for most of your shifts, in addition to squatting, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
Lift and carry:
Ability to lift a dog weighing up to 40 lbs solo and assist in lifting heavier dogs if necessary.
Tolerate noise and mess:
Dog daycares are loud (barking) and can get messy (shedding, drool, accidents). You must be comfortable getting dirty.
Weather exposure:
If you do outdoor walks/relief, you must be willing to walk dogs in rain, snow, cold, or heat.
React quickly:
You must have the reflexes to move quickly to prevent a scuffle or comfort an agitated or anxious dog.
Qualifications Experience:
Professional experience with animals (day care, shelter volunteer, walker, etc.) is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person who has a "pack leader" mindset.
Reliability:
Our team depends on you. Punctuality and consistent attendance are non-negotiable.
Patience:
Ability to remain calm and neutral when dogs are over-excited or testing boundaries.
Tech Savvy:
Comfortable learning a new system to log feeding, health notes, photos, and more on an iPad or MacBook (we use MoeGo for operations), in addition to supporting customer bookings and scheduling. Please note that hourly compensation within the listed range will be determined during the interview process based on each candidate's qualifications and experience level. Schedule We operate 7 days a week, so weekend and holiday availability likely required. Shifts are typically at least four hours long, but we will work with staff to build schedules that work for each individual.
