Candidates must also have some flexibility to occasionally cover call-outs or provide extra support during especially busy periods. Additional hours are not guaranteed. This position may have the potential to become full-time in the future based on performance and business needs. Position Overview We are looking for an experienced handler with strong knowledge of dog behavior, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently. The overnight handler is solely responsible for the safety and well-being of the dogs throughout the night. Because the dogs sleep together in an open, highly social environment, the handler must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to behavioral concerns, illness, injury, distress, or a possible medical emergency. This is not an entry-level position. Previous professional dog daycare or boarding experience is mandatory. Requirements Minimum of 6 months of professional dog daycare or boarding experience Overnight boarding experience is a plus Strong knowledge of dog behavior, body language, and group dynamics Ability to recognize signs of illness, injury, distress, or a potential medical emergency Strong critical-thinking and independent decision-making skills Comfortable being solely responsible for multiple dogs overnight Calm and confident handling dogs of different sizes and temperaments Reliable, punctual, proactive, and attentive Able to follow detailed care instructions and safety procedures Strong communication and shift-handoff skills Some additional availability for occasional coverage Applications without professional dog daycare or boarding experience will not be considered. Paid Training Training typically lasts 2-4 weeks, depending on experience and performance. Most training takes place during active daytime daycare shifts and will also include some overnight shifts. Candidates must have sufficient daytime availability during the training period. Training is paid at the applicable daytime or overnight rate. Responsibilities Supervising boarding dogs overnight in an open, highly social environment Managing group behavior and maintaining a calm, structured environment Monitoring dogs for behavioral or medical concerns Responding appropriately to overnight incidents or emergencies Preparing meals and following individual feeding instructions Safely administering medications when required Cleaning and sanitizing playrooms, bedrooms, and common areas Managing laundry, bedding, linens, and other cleaning tasks Supporting check-in and check-out Providing friendly and professional customer service Occasionally answering phone calls and assisting with basic client inquiries Sending photo and status updates to clients Supporting additional services such as relief walks, one-on-one playtime, and basic baths Completing closing procedures, checklists, documentation, and shift handoffs as needed Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and safety Physical Requirements You must be able to: Safely lift and assist dogs weighing up to 45 lbs Walk up to three dogs at a time during relief walks Remain active for extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, and cleaning Work outdoors briefly in various weather conditions Perform repetitive cleaning, laundry, and sanitation tasks Comfortably handle pet messes Remain alert and responsive throughout a 13-hour overnight shift To Apply Please send your resume and a brief note answering the following: How much professional dog daycare or boarding experience do you have?
