Job Description

The Albany Pet Hotel is hiring for our Overnight Animal Care Handler position! This role has proven to be beneficial for college students who are seeking a full-time job, especially those studying Animal Sciences and related. No prior professional pet care experience needed--we are happy to provide quality on-the-job training! Tasks & Responsibilities Be comfortable handling a variety of dogs and cats ranging in age, size, and temperament. Be comfortable working alone, including handling pet medical emergencies should they arise. Be comfortable administering medication to dogs and cats including oral, topical, and injectable medication, typically during specific times of the night. Supervise a variety of dogs during both group and solo potty breaks after regular business hours. Complete janitorial tasks including but not limited to cleaning and sanitizing kennels and yards, laundry, dishes, mopping, etc. Prepare breakfast meals for boarding dogs including those with special feeding instructions. Provide excellent verbal and written communication with other Overnight Handlers, Daytime Handlers, and management. Be able to pay close attention to and recognize any abnormal behavior with boarding pets, and notify on-call management immediately. Supervise the entire facility by monitoring 20 cameras at one time and walk-throughs as needed. Provide 1:1 overnight care and potty breaks for dogs as needed. Provide additional enrichment services as needed including kennel cuddles, boredom buster treats, and more. Scheduling We are specifically seeking someone who has open availability throughout the week. Weekend and holiday availability is a must! Shifts are typically scheduled 6pm until 12am, and 12am until 6:30am, although some shifts may be scheduled for the entire night from 6pm-6:30am (schedule and shifts will be pre-determined by the time of hire). Opportunities for additional hours are available during our peak seasons (typically summertime and holidays) and through cross-training if desired. If you are a student, we will only be able to move forward with your application if you are available during our busy holiday season including working half-day shifts on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. This position guarantees at least 30 hours per week at $15.55/hour + tips. Requirements:
18 years or older with a high school diploma or GED Reliable transportation to and from your shifts Available to work the days and shifts listed above Available to work weekends and holidays (no exceptions!) Must be comfortable working in a loud and fast-paced environment Must be able to comfortably and reliably walk up and down a flight of stairs, squat, bend, kneel, stand on your feet for long periods of time, and lift up to 30 pounds independently Must be willing and comfortable getting your hands dirty and picking up pet waste!
