Our team of caregivers help create traditional, customized or simplicity services in our five funeral homes, as well as at outside venues. Summary:
We are seeking a full-time Funeral Director Apprentice to assist the Funeral Director in performing a variety of tasks during the preparation, planning, and execution of the funeral and memorialization process. In this important role you will help to ensure services run smoothly and that the expectations of our client families and their guests are exceeded. The primary focus for this position is to help create meaningful funeral experiences to celebrate life.Essential Job Duties:
In conjunction with the Funeral Director, consults with client families or legal representative of the deceased to create services designed to meet their memorialization expectations. Ensures that client families are presented with all merchandising and service options available. Assists with obtaining information needed to complete required documents such as obituaries, death certificates, burial permits, and insurance. Responsible for paperwork such as death certificates, permits, and certified copies of death certificates. Assists in coordinating all service arrangements and details with clergy, other presiding persons, fraternal or military organizations, and others who may participate in conducting the funeral service. Utilizes systems to record merchandise selections, enter contracts, and complete necessary forms. Assists in the planning, scheduling, and conduct of visitations and services. Prepares the deceased, including dressing and casketing. Places casket in visitation area, adjusts light fixtures, and arranges or supervises arrangement of flowers or plants. Directs and ushers families and services attendees to and from the location of the funeral service. Supervises and assists in the transportation of client families to ensure a timely departure and arrival. Arranges and coordinates shipment of remains to and from other cities and locations. Prepares or obtains materials in preparation for service.This includes:
flags, prayer cards, acknowledgement cards, nameboards, service programs, etc., and scanning, arranging and burning DVD projects. Works on-call /first call, as needed. Appropriately uses Corporate Support resources. Performs other duties, as assigned.Education and Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree or some college preferred. Ability and obtain a Funeral Director's License. Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and acceptable driving record.Other Required Skills and Behavioral Competencies:
Excellent computer proficiency skills including experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Good organizational, communication, and customer service skills. Resourceful, adaptable, and displays ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Sophisticated listening skills; shows empathy with client families and their guests, demonstrating tact and patience during sensitive situations. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and working environment through organization and communication. Attention to detail and follow-through. Portrays and exhibits professionalism at all times and in managing conflict or grievances.Physical Requirements:
The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to dead-lift 100 pounds 2.5 feet vertically with or without additional accommodation and push, pull or carry up to 75 lbs. Able to sit, stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel, climb, and crouch. Must be able to reach with hands and arms. Able to talk and hear normal conversations. Must be able to make repetitive motions. This candidate must be flexible and available to work weekends and holidays in addition to regular hours.
