Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Care Center Manager to oversee all aspects of decedent care, preparation services, and crematory coordination within our centralized care center. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of professionalism, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and respectful care for every individual entrusted to our funeral home. Position Summary The Care Center Manager serves as the operational leader of the Care Center and Crematory Coordination Division. This individual is responsible for managing all decedent care processes, supervising preparation room personnel, coordinating all cremation activity with our crematory, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting funeral directors and staff across multiple locations. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional technical skill, strong leadership abilities, and an unwavering commitment to dignity, respect, and excellence in funeral service. Essential ResponsibilitiesCrematory Coordination Coordinate and oversee all individuals entrusted for cremation from intake through final disposition. Verify authorizations, permits, identification procedures, and cremation documentation. Maintain accurate chain-of-custody records and tracking systems. Schedule cremations efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of care. Communicate with funeral directors and administrative staff regarding cremation timelines and status updates. Ensure compliance with all state and local cremation regulations. Manage cremated remains inventory, identification, and release procedures. Decedent Care & Preparation Perform high-quality embalming, restorative art, dressing, casketing, cosmetology, and preparation services. Ensure every decedent is identified, documented, tracked, and cared for with dignity and respect. Handle advanced restorative procedures to provide meaningful opportunities for family viewings. Maintain exceptional standards in preparation room practices and presentation. Team Leadership & Supervision Supervise, train, mentor, and develop licensed embalmers, apprentices, transfer staff, and care center personnel. Schedule staffing and assign case responsibilities. Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and professional development. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, compassion, and respect. Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives. Regulatory Compliance Enforce OSHA standards, including Bloodborne Pathogens and Formaldehyde regulations. Ensure adherence to all public health, state mortuary, and cremation laws. Maintain complete and accurate documentation including: Death certificates Transit permits Cremation authorizations Identification records Preparation reports Participate in inspections and compliance audits as necessary. Facility & Inventory Management Oversee sanitation, organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of the preparation room and care center. Manage inventory levels and procurement of mortuary supplies, embalming chemicals, PPE, and equipment. Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs of transfer vehicles, removal equipment, and preparation room machinery. Collaborate with facilities personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations. Family Service Support Coordinate family participation in identification viewings, ritual washings, and culturally specific preparation requests. Support funeral directors in meeting unique family needs and service expectations. Collaborate with staff across multiple locations to ensure seamless continuity of care. Qualifications Licensing Active PA Funeral Director and/or Embalmer License required. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Education Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited Mortuary Science program preferred. Experience Minimum of 3-5 years of funeral service experience. Prior supervisory or management experience preferred. Experience coordinating crematory operations highly desirable. Technical Skills Extensive knowledge of embalming techniques, restorative art, anatomy, tissue preservation, and mortuary science practices. Familiarity with OSHA standards, chemical safety, and mortuary regulations. Strong understanding of cremation processes and documentation requirements.
