Lead Automotive Upholstery Technician / Department Manager St. Petersburg, FL | Minimum 10 Years of Automotive Upholstery Experience We are looking for an experienced automotive upholstery professional with the craftsmanship, customer skills, and leadership ability to run and grow our automotive department. This role goes beyond sewing or installation. We need someone who can guide customers from an idea to a finished interior, lead production, and manage projects with support from our existing team. Key Responsibilities Consult with customers, discuss budgets, explain materials, and design and sell custom interiors. Help customers select aftermarket upholstery kits, including Katzkin and other brands, then quote, order, and install them. Prepare accurate estimates for labor and materials. Perform and oversee pattern making, cutting, sewing, foam shaping, fabrication, and installation, with assistance from our current team as needed. Lead projects from initial consultation through final inspection and delivery. Order materials, organize production, and coordinate scheduling and customer updates with our front office. Maintain high standards for craftsmanship, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. As the department grows, help hire, train, and lead a dedicated automotive upholstery team. Requirements Minimum 10 years of hands on automotive upholstery experience. Strong custom interior skills and the knowledge to lead projects from start to finish. Thorough understanding of upholstery materials, construction methods, and aftermarket upholstery kits, including Katzkin and other brands. Confidence working with customers, selling projects, and explaining pricing and design options. Experience estimating jobs and managing workflow. Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and work ethic. Ability to take initiative, solve problems, collaborate, and lead by example. You will be the primary automotive technician and department lead, handling the majority of automotive work with help from our current team when needed.
