A Veterinary Assistant/RVT plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation in medical care. This position is responsible for providing exceptional client service, coordinating daily medical tasks, and supporting Veterinarians. Veterinary Assistant Job Duties Ability to practice safe handling of all types of chemicals, equipment, and pets Work with Veterinarians and Room Technicians to create invoices and estimates Triage incoming patients Administer medications SQ, IM and IV Calculating medication oral and injectable Maintain and use laboratory and medical equipment (laboratory equipment, monitors and autoclave, etc.) Prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis Proficient in blood draws. Restraint for a variety of patients, including fractious animals Proficient in IV catheter placement on both feline/canine patients
Surgery:
Preparations, anesthesia monitoring, patient recovery, and surgical write ups. Perform radiographs (including dental radiographs) Perform dental scaling, polishing, and extractions (RVTs only) Complete ear cleanings, nail trims and anal gland expressions Dispense and fill prescribed medications; discuss dosing instructions and side effects with clients Medical record documentation Bandaging various areas of a patient (RVTs only) Reviewing treatment plans and go home instructions. Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials. Handle telephone calls when necessary House keeping
