This is a Doctor-Assistant-First position designed to work closely alongside our veterinarian throughout the day and help make appointments as efficient, organized, and seamless as possible. You'll serve as an important connection between the doctor, client, patient, and treatment team by preparing appointments, obtaining thorough patient histories, assisting during exams, communicating with clients, documenting medical information, and helping carry out the doctor's treatment plan. You'll also step into traditional veterinary technician/assistant duties as needed to support patient care and the rest of the medical team. What You'll Be Doing Doctor Assistant Duties (primary) Work directly alongside the veterinarian throughout scheduled appointments & surgeries Review the day's schedule and patient records to help prepare the doctor for upcoming appointments Obtain accurate and thorough patient histories, including current concerns, medications, diet, and other relevant information Prepare patients and exam rooms for the veterinarian Assist with patient restraint and handling during physical examinations and procedures Accurately document histories, examination findings, treatment plans, and other medical information in the practice management system as directed by the veterinarian Help maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records Prepare treatment plans and estimates based on the veterinarian's recommendations Review treatment plans and estimates with clients and answer appropriate non-medical questions Coordinate recommended diagnostics, treatments, medications, and follow-up care with the treatment team Assist with client education and reinforce veterinarian recommendations within the scope of the role Communicate updates and instructions to clients clearly, compassionately, and professionally Help manage callbacks, follow-up communications, prescription requests, and other doctor-related tasks Anticipate the veterinarian's needs and help keep appointments and patient flow moving efficiently throughout the day Lend a paw wherever needed in the ever-changing world of veterinary medicine Veterinary Technician Duties (secondary) Assist the treatment team with patient care as needed throughout the day Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats using compassionate, low-stress techniques Collect blood, urine, fecal, and other diagnostic samples as appropriate based on training and applicable law Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture based on training and applicable law Prepare, run, and maintain in-house laboratory equipment and diagnostic samples Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian and permitted by law Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes or concerns promptly to the veterinarian Assist with outpatient treatments and procedures Prepare patients, supplies, and equipment for medical procedures Assist with surgical and dental patient preparation, recovery, and other perioperative duties as needed and appropriate to training Maintain accurate treatment sheets and patient records Clean, disinfect, stock, and organize exam rooms, treatment areas, equipment, and supplies Follow hospital protocols for infection control, patient safety, controlled substances, and medical waste Jump in to support the treatment team whenever patient care or hospital flow requires additional help What You Bring to the Table Minimum 2 years of experience working in a veterinary clinical setting as a Veterinary Technician , Doctor Assistant , or similar role Ability and confidence to perform all of the tasks mentioned above Comfortable with digital tools, practice management software, and social media platforms High School diploma Strong team communication, organizational, and team collaboration abilities Excellent client communication skills to keep clients informed and supported Ability to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment Desire to contribute to a progressive, supportive hospital culture Energy level crossed between a golden retriever and 3am cat zoomies What You Take Home $22 - $24 per hour depending on years of experience Medical, dental, and vision insurances 401(k) Retirement plan with up to 3.5% company match Paid time off and paid holidays Cellphone reimbursement program Wellness reimbursement program Work environment & leadership team that prioritizes its people
