Veterinary Assistant - Surgical Prep & Recovery Littlerock Pet Clinic Littlerock, CA Job Details Part-time $17 - $18 an hour 7 hours ago Benefits Employee discount Qualifications Teamwork Patient monitoring Surgery Anesthesiology Dog handling Animal anatomy knowledge Perioperative care Clean workspace maintenance Veterinary terminology Veterinary assistant experience Patient observation Full Job Description Job Summary The Veterinary Assistant specializing in surgical preparation and recovery supports the daily operations of our high‑volume spay/neuter clinic by assisting with patient handling, surgical preparation, anesthesia monitoring, and maintaining a clean, organized, and aseptic environment. This role works closely with our medical team to ensure safe, efficient surgical flow while providing compassionate, judgment‑free care to pets and their owners. Ideal candidates have previous surgery experience, strong animal‑handling skills, and a genuine interest in spay/neuter medicine. Responsibilities Safely and confidently handle and restrain dogs and cats during intake, prep, and recovery Prepare animals for surgery, including shaving, cleaning, and maintaining aseptic technique Monitor anesthesia under veterinary supervision and report changes promptly Monitor patients during recovery to ensure safe anesthesia recovery and comfort Administer medications under veterinarian supervision (oral or injectable, as appropriate for an assistant‑level role) Prepare, wash, and sterilize surgical instruments Assemble, wrap, and restock surgical packs according to clinic standards Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized surgical and kennel environment Clean kennels, recovery areas, and workspaces throughout the day Restock supplies and maintain organization of surgical and kennel areas Collaborate with the medical team to support efficient, safe surgical flow Requirements Prior kennel, shelter, or veterinary assistant experience with hands‑on animal handling Experience in a veterinary or spay/neuter clinic is highly desirable Understanding of basic veterinary terminology, anatomy, and aseptic technique Ability to safely restrain dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments Comfort monitoring anesthesia under veterinary supervision Strong attention to cleanliness, sanitation, and detail Excellent communication skills with both staff and clients Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume surgical environment Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow established protocols Ability to lift and support animals up to 50 lbs Compassionate, calm, and team‑oriented attitude
