This is a unique administrative and clinical support role for someone who enjoys organization, communication, and being at the center of a busy veterinary team. The Doctor Assistant serves as a central liaison between DVMs, clients, CSRs, and the clinical team, supporting up to three doctors per shift. While this role maintains Veterinary Assistant skills and may provide hands-on patient support when needed, the primary focus is coordinating communication, organizing priorities, and reducing the administrative burden on the DVM team.

Responsibilities include:

Reviewing DVM schedules and appointments and helping prioritize the day's workflow Monitoring doctor task lists, communications, and outstanding patient needs Coordinating client callbacks, follow-up, and communication with the veterinary team Providing client education and demonstrating home care instructions to help clients confidently care for their pets after visits Preparing same-day treatment estimates and supporting timely client communication Auditing medical records for completion and helping ensure documentation is up to date Coordinating communication between DVMs, CSRs, and the clinical team Tracking outstanding tasks and ensuring they are completed or appropriately handed off Providing hands-on Veterinary Assistant support when hospital needs require it Helping DVMs and clinical team members stay organized and focused on patient care Schedule and compensation:

$ 28 - $32 per hour, for each hour worked This is a full-time position with a 5/8 schedule and availability needed Monday through Friday Full-time Benefits Package

•: Bonus package: Up to $500 depending on experience Health package: Medical, dental, and vision insurance with HSA options and choice of UnitedHealthcare or Kaiser Permanente Life insurance and disability Employee Assistance Program 401k with company match Paid time off in accordance with site policy and applicable law Personal pet discount Uniform allowance Part-time team members may be eligible for limited benefits in accordance with company policy and state law Minimum qualifications and skill set: 5+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant role, with experience in client service preferred Candidates who hold a California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substances Permit (VACSP) preferred Fear Free Certification or willingness to become certified Proficiency in the following skills: Strong knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks throughout the day Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs and cats Knowledge of common veterinary medications and basic drug calculations Excellent communication skills with DVMs, clients, CSRs, and the clinical team Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate medical records and documentation Ability to coordinate follow-up, track outstanding tasks, and ensure appropriate completion or handoff Comfortable providing client education, discussing treatment plans and discharge instructions, and demonstrating home care Ability to provide hands-on Veterinary Assistant support with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures when needed Dependable, collaborative, and committed to exceptional patient care and client service About us: The Whole Pet Vet Hospital and Wellness Center in Los Gatos, CA is a modern, progressive practice with a team of 8 DVMs offering comprehensive and integrative care, including rehabilitation and acupuncture.
