Job Type Full time VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center is hiring a full time Veterinary Assistant to join our team! We are seeking an individual who is positive, energetic, eager to learn, and works well on a team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support our hospital's in-house pharmacy and laboratory operations.
Responsibilities include:
Dispensing prescribed medications and pharmaceuticals in compliance with professional standards and legal requirements Calculating dosages and preparing medications accurately Reviewing prescriptions issued by DVMs for accuracy and completeness Maintaining proper handling, security, and documentation of controlled substances Running in-house laboratory tests and preparing samples for outside labs Maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment Maintain cleanliness of pharmacy and lab area, supplies and instruments Managing pharmacy and laboratory inventory Training and supporting team members in lab and pharmacy procedures Assisting in maintaining overall hospital organization and cleanliness Reviewing prescriptions issued by DVMs to assure accuracy Minimum qualifications : 2+ years' experience in the veterinary industry Bachelor's Degree and/or Credentialed Veterinary Technician preferred Strong organizational ability and attention to detail Must be able to develop and maintain effective and positive work relationships with other employees and representatives of private and public agencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Previous experience or training/education working in a pharmacy. Previous controlled drug handling, reconciling records and performing audits. Must be friendly, outgoing, "people oriented". Excellent communications skills, both written and oral. Telephone and computer skills. Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks at once, and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities. Intermediate math skills and excellent visual acuity sufficient for alphabetization. Must be able to interact with all levels of staffing in a professional manner. Physical Requirements Dependable attendance is required Any allergies to animals must be controlled through medication Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions. This position requires the ability to lift up to 40lbs, sit, walk, squat, bend, stand, reach, lift and type constantly during a minimum of 8 hours a day. Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people and understand written directions Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment such as syringes, laboratory equipment, computers, etc. Adhere to appropriate dress code to include proper scrubs and nametag.
