Job Type Part time VCA Pike Creek Animal Hospital is seeking a reliable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Part-Time Patient Care Attendant / Kennel Assistant to support our medical team in delivering exceptional care to our patients. This role is vital to the daily operations of the hospital, ensuring that all hospitalized and boarding pets are clean, comfortable, safe, and well cared for at all times. This position requires a strong work ethic, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a genuine passion for animal welfare. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly. This is a part-time position, and weekend availability (Saturday and Sunday) is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide attentive daily care to hospitalized and boarding patients, including feeding, medicating (as directed), walking, and ensuring overall comfort Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels, cages, runs, treatment areas, and common hospital spaces using approved products (e.g., Kennelsol, Rescue) and protocols Perform laundry duties, including washing, drying, and restocking bedding and towels throughout the day Monitor patient appetite, elimination, attitude, and overall condition; promptly report concerns to veterinary technicians or doctors Safely handle and restrain animals of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments Assist with basic grooming services such as bathing, nail trims, and ear cleaning as needed Maintain accurate patient care logs and communicate effectively with team members during shift changes Ensure boarding pets receive enrichment, exercise, and compassionate interaction during their stay Restock supplies and maintain organized, well-stocked work areas Follow all hospital safety, sanitation, and animal handling protocols at all times
Qualifications:
Genuine passion for working with animals and supporting their well-being Ability to stay organized and attentive to detail in a busy clinical environment Strong communication and teamwork skills Willingness to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting (up to 40 lbs), standing for extended periods, bending, and cleaning Comfortable working with animals that may be stressed, ill, or reactive Dependable, punctual, and able to follow directions carefully Previous experience in animal care, kennel work, or veterinary settings is preferred but not required
Schedule Requirements:
Part-time hours based on hospital needs Required availability on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) Flexibility to work holidays and occasional evenings as needed
