Mixed Animal RVT

A veterinary technician/vet assistant to work under a veterinarian to provide specialized nursing care, including administering anesthesia, performing laboratory tests, assisting in surgery, taking radiographs, and providing emergency first aid. Key Responsibilities and Duties can include but are not limited to;

Surgical Assistance:

Sterile prep of injection sites for our equine patients. Sterile prep for large animal c-sections. Assisting with sedating animals, preparing animals for surgery, cleaning instruments, assisting in procedures, and monitoring anesthesia.

Medical Care & Treatment:

Accurately retrieving and accurately recording medications prescribed by the veterinarian.

Diagnostic Imaging & Lab Work:

Taking X-rays and conducting laboratory tests like blood counts and urinalyses.

Billing:

Enter accurate items and services provided during appointments. Ensure accurate client information for billing.

Inventory management:

Entry of incoming inventory and monthly counts/updates.

Client Communication:

Explaining treatments, providing feeding instructions, and educating pet owners.

Education and Certification Education:

Required High School Diploma; suggested an RVT, AA or BS in Agriculture field.

Required Skills Technical Skills:

Proficiency in animal handling, laboratory techniques, and medical equipment operation.

Soft Skills:

Strong communication, empathy, critical thinking, and the ability to work under pressure. Flexible work hours. 7:30am-6pm with no real lunch hour is not uncommon during the busy season. But then winter/holidays hit and we might only work 3 days a week. Can ride in a vehicle and work on a laptop or ipad.
