Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, and critical care treatments with precision and aseptic technique. Perform animal restraint, handling, and husbandry to ensure safety for both animals and staff. Conduct laboratory tests such as blood draws (phlebotomy), urine analysis, and other diagnostic procedures using veterinary software and lab equipment. Administer medications, vaccines, and fluids via IV insertion or other routes while monitoring anesthesia during surgeries or critical care cases. Support radiology diagnostics by preparing animals for X-ray procedures, operating imaging equipment, and assisting with radiology diagnostics interpretation. Maintain detailed medical records, update patient files in veterinary software, and document all procedures accurately. Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up needs to foster trust and understanding. Qualifications Proven kennel experience along with animal husbandry skills to ensure proper care before, during, and after treatments. Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and emergency medicine protocols. Hands-on experience with anesthesia monitoring (including general anesthesia), vascular access (IV catheterization), and veterinary surgical assistance. Familiarity with diagnostic radiology techniques such as X-ray imaging and radiology diagnostics tools. Ability to handle dogs confidently through dog training techniques and animal restraint skills; experience with equine or other large animals is a plus. Proficiency in using veterinary laboratory workstations, phlebotomy tools, medication administration techniques, and medical equipment operation. Strong client communication skills to explain procedures clearly and provide pet care guidance effectively. Certification or experience in veterinary critical care or emergency medicine is highly desirable.
