Job Description

Are you passionate about animal care and looking to grow your career in veterinary medicine? Join Charles River Laboratories as a Veterinary Assistant and gain hands-on experience supporting the health, welfare, and care of animals in a research environment. Working alongside experienced veterinary professionals, you'll receive training, develop technical skills, and play an important role in ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. What You'll Do As a Veterinary Assistant, you will work under the guidance of veterinarians and experienced staff while learning and performing essential animal care and veterinary support duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide compassionate care and promote animal welfare through positive human-animal interactions. Assist with animal handling, restraint, feeding, housing maintenance, and daily health observations. Collect and document animal health and study data accurately in paper and electronic systems. Administer treatments and medications under supervision and according to established protocols. Assist with biological sample collection and other technical procedures. Support veterinary staff with physical and neurological examinations. Learn veterinary medical assessment, treatment, and case management practices. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment used in animal care and veterinary procedures. Follow all quality, safety, regulatory, and animal welfare requirements. Participate in specialized training, including sedation recovery monitoring and emergency response procedures.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Minimum of six months of relevant animal care, veterinary, laboratory, agricultural, or related experience. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended hours as needed. Pay:
From $21.50 per hour
