Job Summary:
The Veterinary Assistant provides essential support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering high-quality care to animals. This role includes assisting with patient restraint, preparing treatment areas, handling medical supplies, performing basic laboratory procedures, and supporting client communication. The Veterinary Assistant plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized clinic environment while ensuring a positive experience for both pets and their owners. Veterinary Assistants work under the supervision of veterinarians and veterinary technicians and are expected to follow clinic protocols, prioritize animal welfare, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Animal Care and Handling Safely restrain and handle animals during exams, treatments, and procedures. Monitor patient behavior, appetite, and overall health, and report any concerns to the veterinarian or technician. Assist with feeding, exercising, and providing comfort to hospitalized animals.
- Clinical Support o Prepare treatment areas, surgical suites, and exam rooms for procedures.
o Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations, surgeries, and medical treatments. o Perform basic laboratory procedures, such as collecting samples, running tests, and documenting results under supervision of veterinarian or technician. o Administer medications or treatments as directed and under supervision.
- Client Communication and Education o Provide clear instructions to clients regarding medications, treatments, or follow-up care. o Answer routine client questions and refer medical questions to veterinarians or technicians.
- Administrative Duties o Maintain accurate patient records and update medical charts as instructed. o Ensure compliance with clinic protocols and safety standards.
- Facility Maintenance o Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, and animal housing clean, sanitized, and organized. o Properly handle and dispose of medical waste and sharps according to clinic policies. o Ensure all equipment is clean, functioning, and ready for use.
- Team Collaboration o Work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, and other clinic staff.
o Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required. o Support a positive, professional, and compassionate clinic environment. Schedule Monday - Friday 745a-5p
Pay:
$14.00 - $19.00 per hour
