How they feel walking out the door matters to us just as much as the medicine. We're looking for a Veterinary Assistant who gets that, and who treats every visit like they're hosting someone in their own home. What this job really is Yes, you'll draw blood, hold patients, and run diagnostics. But the heart of this role is people. You'll be the one in the exam room taking histories, walking clients through treatment plans, and making sure nobody leaves confused. Here's what that looks like in practice: When a doctor is running behind, you pop your head into the room and say, "I'm so sorry for the wait, Dr. ___ will be in shortly. Can I get you anything?" You don't hide in treatment hoping they won't notice. When a client asks something you don't know, you say, "Great question, let me find out," and then you actually go find out. You dig into the records, ask the doctor, look it up. You don't guess and you don't drop it. When you mess up (and everyone does), you own it right away. You apologize to the client, tell your team, and fix it. We will never be upset about an honest mistake. We will be upset about a hidden one. Every client gets offered a drink. Coffee, water, beer, or wine, every single time (yes, you read that right). No exceptions, no "I forgot." How we do things here Let's be honest: vet med is hard. The days are long, the cases can be heavy, and everyone in this field has felt stretched thin at some point. We're not going to pretend otherwise. What we can promise is that we face it together. As a hospital and as a team, we always strive to make things better. Better for the pets, better for their families, and better for the people taking care of them. Part of that is how we see patients. We book longer appointments than most practices, so there's room to slow down. Every pet gets the time they need to feel safe, and every client should walk out feeling like we had time for them, even on our busiest days. If you're used to hurrying people in and out, that's not our style, and it won't be yours here either. Who thrives here You're the person who sees the laundry piling up and just starts folding. Who restocks the room before anyone asks. Who notices the client in the lobby looking anxious and walks over. Who sees a client in the parking lot struggling to get their pet in the car and you go out to help. You don't wait to be told what's next, because you're already looking for it. If you'd rather stay in the back and avoid clients, this isn't the job for you, and that's okay. But if you genuinely like making people feel taken care of, keep reading. Experience and growth You'll need a solid foundation in vet med. You should already be comfortable with restraint, basic diagnostics, and the day-to-day flow of a clinic. We're not starting from zero with you. But we don't expect you to know everything, either. We want to help you keep growing and become the best vet professional you can be. That means CE, hands-on teaching from our doctors and techs, and room to take on more as you're ready. What we ask in return is that you actually want to learn. You ask questions. You take feedback without getting defensive, and you use it. When someone shows you a better way to do something, you're curious instead of annoyed. The people who do best here are the ones who never stop getting better. We'll be upfront: we ask a lot of our team. We hold ourselves to a high bar, and we expect every person here to hold themselves to it too. Vet med keeps changing, and so does our practice. New protocols, new tools, new ways of doing things. Joining us means keeping up with that. We'll give you the tools and the support. You just have to be willing to use them. What you'll do Handle patients gently using Fear-Free techniques (not certified yet? We'll get you started) Take histories and educate clients in exam rooms, following our hospital SOPs Draw blood, give vaccines, and fill prescriptions Take TPRs and assist with radiographs, ultrasound, and other diagnostics Talk clients through treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care Jump in to help doctors, techs, and fellow assistants wherever needed Keep rooms and work areas clean, stocked, and ready to go Back up our CSR team on the phones when things get busy We do not scruff cats. Ever. If that's what you've been taught, we're happy to show you better ways. Schedule We're open Monday through Friday, 8a-6p, no weekends. This role is either four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days, which we'll figure out together during hiring. About QCAH We opened in June 2019 in the heart of 28205 and haven't slowed down since. We see dogs, cats, and exotics for preventive care, sick visits, and urgent care. We're AAHA Accredited, a Cat Friendly Gold Certified Practice, and a Fear-Free Certified Hospital (the only one in the city of Charlotte), and our entire team is Fear-Free Certified. We've got the tools to do the job right: in-house Idexx lab, digital radiography and dental radiography, endoscopy, ultrasound, and cold laser therapy. We're privately owned, which means the people making decisions are the people working alongside you, not a corporate office three states away. What you get Competitive pay Health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance 401k with matching PTO A generous CE budget and a team that wants to help you grow (and expects you to use it) Employee pet discounts A real commitment to work/life balance and giving back to our community How to apply Send us your resume along with short answers to our screener questions. Your answers help us get to know you beyond your resume, so please don't skip them! And if you've read this far, thank you! We look forward to hearing from you!
