We are a busy and growing animal hospital, and we are in need of driven, caring, and experienced assistants to help us in providing excellent care to our patients and clients. The schedule will either be 4x10 or 3x12 fixed overnights most weeks throughout the year, however due to vacations/call outs/staffing/etc it would be helpful for candidates to have some occasional flexibility to help out the team when needed. Previous experience working as a veterinary assistant in a hospital/shelter setting is required and any schooling is welcomed. If hired, you will receive training in order to learn how our particular practice runs and so that you can get comfortable with everything before transitioning to nights, but potential applicants should be expected to know and be able to execute the following: Assist Doctors/LVTs with physical exams and treatments How to take TPRs and knowing normal readings Able to lift/move patients and crouch/kneel without issue Restrain patients efficiently and safely Restrain for bandages/catheters/blood draws Knowledge of radiographic techniques and how to properly acquire them as well as proper x-ray safety Medicating hospitalized patients Monitoring patients under anesthesia Maintaining sterility during procedures Using blood machines for in-house labs Cleaning and wrapping surgical instruments Administering SQ fluid therapy Knowledge of prescription medications and their uses. Computer entry and basic computer knowledge Experience with Via Practice Management Software is a plus. There may still be more we have you do beyond just this list. Overnight vet assistants are also expected to clean and stock the hospital whenever possible to have everything ready and usable for the day staff. Veterinary Assistants take on a large amount of responsibility, and we are looking for individuals who will be able to confidently take on these tasks.
