This position is ideal for a veterinary assistant who enjoys hands-on patient care, building relationships with patients and their owners, and helping pets regain mobility, strength, comfort, and quality of life. Our rehabilitation patients include pets recovering from orthopedic or neurologic conditions, post-operative patients, senior pets, and patients receiving long-term mobility and pain-management support. Position Overview The Veterinary Rehabilitation Assistant works alongside our veterinary rehabilitation team to assist with prescribed rehabilitation treatments, therapeutic exercises, patient handling, treatment-area preparation, equipment maintenance, and client support. Because many of our patients are painful, weak, neurologically impaired, geriatric, or recovering from surgery, this position requires patience, excellent animal-handling skills, attention to detail, and the ability to recognize changes in a patient's comfort or behavior. Responsibilities Assist the veterinary rehabilitation team with patient appointments and treatments Safely handle and position dogs and cats during rehabilitation sessions Assist with prescribed therapeutic exercises and mobility activities Assist with underwater treadmill sessions and patient preparation Assist with rehabilitation modalities and treatments as permitted by training, hospital protocol, and applicable veterinary regulations Prepare treatment areas and equipment between appointments Clean and maintain rehabilitation equipment, treatment areas, kennels, and patient-care spaces Help patients safely enter, exit, stand, walk, and reposition as needed Monitor patient comfort, behavior, mobility, and tolerance during treatments and promptly communicate concerns to the supervising veterinary professional Accurately document treatments and patient observations Reinforce veterinarian-prescribed home exercise instructions with pet owners Provide compassionate Fear Free-minded handling, particularly for painful, nervous, senior, or mobility-impaired patients Assist with general veterinary and administrative duties as needed to support daily operations

Qualifications Required:

Previous veterinary assistant, veterinary technician assistant, or comparable hands-on animal-care experience Comfortable handling dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments Strong communication and teamwork skills Dependable, organized, and able to follow detailed treatment instructions Comfortable working directly with clients Ability to perform the physical requirements of a rehabilitation position, including prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and assisting with mobility-impaired patients

Preferred:

1+ year of veterinary clinical experience Previous experience in veterinary rehabilitation, physical therapy, sports medicine, orthopedic care, or integrative medicine Fear Free training or certification Experience with underwater treadmill, therapeutic laser, therapeutic exercises, or other veterinary rehabilitation modalities Interest in pursuing additional education or certification in veterinary rehabilitation Rehabilitation experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate. We are willing to train an experienced veterinary assistant who has a strong interest in rehabilitation medicine and demonstrates excellent patient-handling skills. Schedule This is a part-time position that is for Monday and Tuesdays from 8 am - 6 pm . Candidates should have some flexibility based on patient scheduling and the needs of the rehabilitation department.
