Job Description

We're looking for a Veterinary Assistant who wants to be part of a team where quality patient care and teamwork matter. This is a hands-on, , fast-paced role in a small animal general practice where assistants play an essential part in keeping the day running smoothly. You'll be involved in both patient care and the behind-the-scenes work that makes that care possible. If you like to stay busy, work with a team, and be involved in real cases and patient care, you'll do well here. Why This Role No weekends. No on-call. Consistent weekday schedule Team-based environment with strong support from doctors and technicians Opportunities to learn and grow in patient care skills over time What You'll Do This role is a mix of hands-on patient care and hospital support work, which are both essential to how the clinic functions. Setup and assist with exams, treatments, and procedures Safely restrain patients and recognize body language Support surgery and dentistry (prep, recovery, patient care) Monitor and care for hospitalized patients Run and prepare lab samples Take patient histories and communicate with clients Clean and reset exam rooms and treatment areas Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient hospital Some days lean more heavily into patient care, others into keeping the hospital running. Both are important parts of the role. What We're Looking For Reliable and team-oriented Comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on environment Strong communication skills with clients and coworkers Willingness to learn and take feedback Previous veterinary or animal experience is a plus, but not required Physical & Job Requirements This is a physically active job , and it's important to understand what that means before applying.
You will be:
On your feet for most of the day Frequently bending, kneeling, and working at floor level, sometimes for sustained periods Assisting in the safe restraint of animals, including those that may be anxious or resistant Lifting 40-50 lbs independently and more with assistance Handling dogs up to 200 lbs in a controlled and safe manner Schedule Full-time (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday within clinic hours No weekends, no on-call Compensation $18.50 - $21.00/hour , based on experience and qualifications Benefits Paid Time Off (80 hours/year, increases with tenure) Paid Holidays + additional surrounding days Health insurance reimbursement (up to $350/month) Dental insurance reimbursement (up to $50/month) Employee & family pet care discount Continuing education opportunities Uniform allowance 401(k) with up to 4% employer match (available starting July 1) NYS Paid Family Leave, Disability, and other protected leave options About Us Lake Ontario Veterinary Clinic is a small animal general practice focused on providing thoughtful, high-quality care in a supportive, team-centered environment.
