Come Work With Us in the Columbia River Gorge Hood River Alpine Veterinary Hospital is looking for an experienced, compassionate Veterinary Assistant or CVT to join our team. We are a mixed-animal practice serving the Hood River community and surrounding Columbia River Gorge. This position is a great fit for a technician who is confident in their clinical skills, enjoys working with multiple species, and wants to be part of a team where communication, collaboration, and patient care truly matter. Duties Assist veterinarians with medical procedures including surgery, venipuncture and IV catheter placement, radiology, anesthesia, medication administration, dental cleanings, and animal restraint. Handle a variety of animals including dogs, cats, and horses, demonstrating excellent animal handling and behavior assessment skills. Perform animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, cleaning kennels, maintaining hygiene standards with aseptic techniques, and ensuring overall hospital cleanliness. Support clinical operations by recording detailed patient records and maintaining accurate documentation of medical treatments and surgical procedures. Conduct pet care activities including pet bathing, grooming assistance, and monitoring post-operative recovery to promote comfort and health. Perform medical equipment maintenance and prioritize hospital cleanliness in a busy clinical environment. Communicate effectively with clients regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and answering questions about animal behavior or physiology. Requirements Proven kennel experience along with veterinary clinic experience or equivalent hands-on animal handling background. Experience working as a veterinary technician or in veterinary critical care settings is highly desirable. Availability to work a minimum of two Saturday shifts a month. Demonstrated ability to perform technical tasks such as catheterization, aseptic technique, and oral or injectable medication administration. Must be able to stand for 6-8 hours and lift up to 50lbs Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and behavior to support accurate diagnostics and treatments. Excellent client communication skills paired with the ability to handle animals safely using restraint techniques. Ability to work efficiently in a team environment while managing multiple responsibilities effectively. Prior experience with front desk duties including appointment scheduling or client interaction is a plus. Willingness to support training objectives and lead teams under the direction of the practice manager. Pay:
$18.50 - $28.00 per hour Expected hours: 30.0 - 40.0 per week
