Kestrel Vet is independently and locally owned/operated by Dr. Kayla Hough. Current office hours are Monday-Thursday 8am-6 pm, with the potential to expand. We are seeking to hire a Veterinary Assistant (or two!) to join our team! Duties Assist with examinations, treatments and procedures with safe, low stress animal restraint, handling and positioning. Document patient information, history, and client communication accurately in veterinary practice management software. Provide excellent client communication and support via telephone, email, text or in-person regarding treatment plans, estimates, laboratory results and diagnostics as directed. Administer medications and treatments to hospitalized patients (monitoring, walking, feeding, etc.) Assist veterinarian with common surgical procedures while maintaining aseptic technique. Prepare and maintain surgical areas, including cleaning and sterilization of instruments. Assist or perform blood draws, placement of intravenous catheters, positioning and taking radiographs, perform dental prophy under supervision along with other skills commonly performed by veterinary assistants Take basic vital signs and assess patients (heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, capillary refill time, assessment of respiratory effort, mentation, etc.). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications (required): Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (required). The ideal candidate would have prior veterinary assisting experience for at least 1-2+ years. Ability to lift 40+ pounds and work on your feet for extended periods. Proficiency in clinical and communication skills as listed above in duties.
