The advertised salary reflects the full pay range for this position. Starting compensation is expected to be between $20-$25 per hour, depending on qualifications, skills and experience. About Us Founded in 1986, Animal Surgical is Seattle's only orthopedic specialty practice and is owned and operated by our practicing doctors. We focus on advanced orthopedic procedures, including arthroscopy, joint replacement, and orthopedic trauma surgery as well as orthopedic medicine and rehabilitation. Position Overview As an Experienced Surgical Veterinary Assistant, you will be an essential member of our surgical team, assisting our surgeons and veterinary technicians in all aspects of surgical procedures, patient care and facility sterility. Your expertise and compassion will contribute directly to the well-being of our patients and their recovery.
Responsibilities:
Assist surgeons in preparing for and conducting surgical procedures, including pre-operative setup, surgical instrument sterilization, and post-operative cleanup. Monitor and ensure the comfort, safety, and well-being of patients before and after surgery. Prepare surgical suites, equipment, and instruments for procedures, adhering to strict sterile techniques. Provide post-operative patient care including walking patients outside, giving oral medications under the direction of veterinary technicians and surgeons. Collaborate with the team to maintain accurate medical records and document all aspects of patient care. Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing guidance and reassurance throughout. Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, efficient and sterile surgical environment. Qualifications & Traits Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary assistant in a clinical setting, with surgical assisting experience. Proficiency in surgical instrument sterilization, surgical suite setup, and post-operative care. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills, both with the surgical team and pet owners. Compassionate, patient-focused, and dedicated to providing exceptional care to animals. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and stand for long periods of time. Positive attitude and flexibility.
