Veterinary Assistant / Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT Preferred) Cat-Only Veterinary Clinic - Milwaukee Historic Third Ward We are a growing feline-exclusive veterinary clinic located in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward seeking a compassionate, skilled, and team-oriented Veterinary Technician to join our team. Position Overview As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care while supporting our veterinarians through all aspects of diagnosis, treatment, surgery, dentistry, and client communication. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, and committed to practicing high-quality, fear-free feline medicine. As a feline-only practice, our environment is typically quieter and less physically demanding than a traditional mixed or dog-focused clinic. Team members benefit from working without the challenges of handling large dogs, heavy lifting associated with larger patients, or the high-noise kennel environment common in many veterinary hospitals. Responsibilities Patient Care & Nursing Obtain accurate patient histories and perform patient assessments Safely handle and restrain cats using low-stress, fear-free techniques Prepare patients for examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian Collect laboratory samples including blood, urine, and fecal specimens Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for reference laboratories Place intravenous catheters and administer fluid therapy as directed Take and process diagnostic radiographs Monitor hospitalized patients and accurately document treatments and observations Maintain accurate and thorough medical records Surgical & Dental Support Prepare surgical patients, including anesthesia setup and monitoring Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures Monitor anesthesia and patient recovery Perform dental prophylaxis and obtain full-mouth dental radiographs (where permitted by state regulations) Maintain surgical instruments and ensure proper sterilization procedures Client Communication Educate clients regarding preventive care, medications, nutrition, diagnostics, and home care instructions Review treatment plans and discharge instructions with clients Answer client questions and provide compassionate support throughout the patient's care Clinic Operations Prepare and maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment Maintain inventory of medical supplies and medications Support a clean, organized, and efficient hospital environment Collaborate with veterinarians and fellow team members to provide exceptional patient care Qualifications Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) preferred; experienced veterinary assistants/technicians will also be considered Previous experience in a veterinary clinical setting required Experience with anesthesia monitoring, dentistry, laboratory procedures, and radiology preferred Comfortable handling and restraining cats using low-stress techniques Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Familiarity with veterinary practice management software is a plus Passion for feline medicine and exceptional patient care What We Offer Set schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (8:00 AM-6:00 PM) — No weekends!
