Role:
Kanawha Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Hospital Assistant to join our team in South Charleston, WV. Our hospital assistants provide support to the veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, customer service representatives, and veterinarians in order to keep the hospital clean and odor-free, to reduce the risk of spread of infectious diseases, and to keep the working areas of the hospital organized and well stocked. Hospital assistants are often cross-trained to assist our client service representatives and to help out wherever needed. Pre-vet students, Vet tech students, and anyone who has ever been interested in a career in the veterinary industry, this is the position to get your foot in the door. PART TIME OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
Responsibilities:
Disinfect and Sanitize animal handling areas Maintain clean, well-stocked, and organized treatment areas, ICU, and exam rooms Maintain clean client waiting areas and exterior hospital grounds Assist veterinary technicians and assistants with patient restraint and handling Assist with mortuary duties Surgery, Isolation ward, and ICU laundry protocols
Requirements:
high school diploma or GED Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude Comfortable working in a high-stress emergency environment with urgency and composure Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required in an emergency hospital setting Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift animals or equipment as needed Candidates with previous animal handling experience such as grooming, kennel attendant, farm work or medical training outside the veterinary field, such as phlebotomy, CNA, pharmacy techs and medical assistants will be competitive applicants for this position
