Serve as a responsible controlled substances temporary receiver and maintain control drug inventory according to DEA, local, federal, and University requirements. Responsible for ordering, receiving, and stocking drugs, equipment, supplies, livestock, and specimens required for each course as defined by course leaders, instructors, and colleagues. Ensure accountability and stewardship of departmental resources (operational, financial, animal, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures. Generate and maintain records for supplies, facilities, and equipment. Administer and comply with departmental, campus, and federal agencies regarding safety, animal housing, transportation, and welfare, ensuring that the GCTC meets all IACUC, AAALAC, USDA, EH&S, CDPH, Cal OSHA, CUPA and other regulations. Ensure duties of staff are performed in compliance with established protocols.

• For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license, or equivalent experience and education and ability to obtain RVT license within 1 year.

Valid CA Driver's License required. Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program No Minimum Education Required. Experience and skill handling, restraining and caring for the health and welfare of small companion animals, equine and livestock species, small mammals (rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats), birds and reptiles in a hospital environment. Experience applying specific and detailed safety procedures such as biosafety and confined entry requirements, radiation safety and biosafety protocols, acts governing animal welfare, and specifics of Material Safety Data Sheets. Experience working with disinfection protocols in a multi-species hospital environment and disease control with willingness and ability to comply with all policies, procedures, protocols and regulations at all levels of the organization, including managerial, departmental, campus, state, and federal directives. Adept at analysis and problem-solving and demonstrated frequent use and proficiency in the use of personal computers, including database, spreadsheet, and word processing software. Ability to independently generate documents and spreadsheets; skill to work with Adobe PDF documents and electronic medical record systems. Proficiency in common medical procedures in small animal, avian, reptile, equine and livestock (blood collection, injections, catheterization, and diagnostic procedures, etc.) sufficient to instruct veterinary students on basic clinical skills used in veterinary medicine. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written skills to provide and receive instruction, constructive feedback, to work in a diverse group/team-centric environment, and to develop and clearly fill out forms and inventories used in patient care and operational management. Knowledgeable in basic anatomy and knife/surgical blade handling skills to skillfully part cadaver specimens based on requested structures or needs. Adept at significant cadaver work, tissue handling, and exposure to copious animal bodily fluids. Preferred Qualifications Experience demonstrating and teaching veterinary clinical skills such as instructing students in preparing a patient for surgery (i.e., surgical instrumentation, sterile fields, surgical positioning of patients, skin preparation, draping, gowning and gloving) and on post anesthesia duties. Experience using surgical instruments and equipment, basic surgery packs, orthopedic instruments, and anesthesia equipment. Experience determining the required instruments and equipment for a surgery and opening them aseptically in the O.R. Experience and mathematical skills in calculating prescription pharmaceutical dosages and accurately dispensing them. Experience operating x-ray units, proper positioning, and practicing radiation safety. Working knowledge of animal care and safety and regulatory environments. Skills and knowledge of anesthetic and sedation actions, application, and management to allow instruction and independent use of both classified and non-classified drugs to safely maintain animals under anesthesia. • Resource Management Department Overview Headed by the Associate Dean for Professional Education, the Office of Professional Education provides instructional support for the School of Veterinary Medicine.

The Gourley Clinical Teaching Center handles the teaching of anesthesia, ultrasound, dentistry, clinical skills, and surgery to the DVM students, using live animals, cadaver specimens, and teaching models. The GCTC houses dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, rodents, and reptiles, operates 365 days a year, and shifts vary starting as early as 6:00am and ending as late as 10:00 or 11:00pm. There are over 700 lab sessions conducted at the GCTC each academic year and the facility houses and cares for the canine and feline Teaching Colonies used in the DVM curriculum.

Normal work schedule is 10 hours per day M-Th while surgical courses are in session, but are subject to change.
