Under general supervision of the Large Animal Clinic Equine Patient Care Managers, provide technical support for the Equine Medicine and Specialty Services, including dentistry, ophthalmology, oncology and neurology. Provide technical support and critical nursing care in the Large Animal ICU/ISO/NICU and technical support to other VMTH services. Duties include technical/nursing duties, patient monitoring, instruction, laboratory and infectious disease control and sanitation.

Oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse group of people to include clients, veterinarians, students and staff. Skill to recognize and handle difficult/unpleasant situations and/or individuals, and using problem solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Current CA Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license. Experience using VMACS. Experience with routine laboratory tests performing PCV, TP, electrolytes, blood gases, glucose, osm, COP, BUN, creatinine, WBC, urinalysis, fibrinogen estimation, colostrum specific gravity, equine blood type-agglutination test diagnostic sampling, and understanding normal values. Skill to perform emergency care procedures & provide technical assistance during life threatening situations according to established protocols and to manage various treatment apparatus i.e. fluid therapy catheters, urinary catheter, nasogastric tubes, IV infusion pumps, blood pressure monitors, recording patient behavior, bodily functions using appropriate medical terminology and placing IV catheters and nasogastric tubes.
