Want to use your veterinary skills for something truly different? Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary is seeking an experienced Certified/Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our medical team caring for nearly 200 rescued New World monkeys. This is a unique hands-on position involving preventive medicine, diagnostics, anesthesia, emergency and critical care, geriatric and special-needs care, and the ongoing management of monkeys with chronic medical conditions. What You'll Do Work closely with our Attending Veterinarian, consulting veterinarians, specialists, and Primate Care team Perform blood draws, IV catheterization, fluid therapy, medication administration, anesthesia monitoring, and patient recovery Read and recognize significant findings and trends in CBCs, chemistry panels, pathology reports, and other diagnostics Perform fecal floats and microscopy and assist with parasite identification Assist with necropsies and preparation and fixation of tissue for pathology Track medications, treatment endpoints, potential side effects, follow-up testing, and special-care plans Help coordinate supplemental diets and medical care for geriatric, diabetic, recovering, and other special-needs monkeys Provide emergency triage and stabilization under veterinary direction Help coordinate the appropriate level of care, including mobile veterinary services at our Bob Barker Medical Clinic or referral to local and advanced specialty veterinary hospitals Learn safe capture, restraint, and handling of nonhuman primates Participate in scheduled/shared on-call coverage and occasional emergency, after-hours, or overnight critical care Document qualifying primate-care experience toward applicable FWC requirements and future authorization for monkey transport What We're Looking For Certified/Credentialed Veterinary Technician Minimum one year of hands-on veterinary technician experience Strong anesthesia, venipuncture, IV catheterization, patient-monitoring, and clinical skills Ability to recognize changes in an animal's condition and respond appropriately to emergencies Excellent organization, communication, medical recordkeeping, and follow-through Compassion for animals and a genuine interest in sanctuary medicine Experience with exotic species is a plus Nonhuman-primate experience is wonderful, but not required—we will train the right candidate A Different Kind of Veterinary Career At Jungle Friends, you have the opportunity to know your patients for years—not minutes.
