Job Description

Livewell Animal Hospital is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician to join our collaborative Veterinary Health team. In this role, you'll assist with exams, anesthesia monitoring, surgery, dental procedures, lab diagnostics, and patient nursing care. You'll educate clients on preventative care and support a high standard of medicine. Our culture emphasizes compassion, teamwork, clear communication, and continuous learning. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, surgeries, and dental procedures for dogs and cats Safely restrain patients for exams, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and sample collection while minimizing fear, stress, and anxiety Perform technical procedures including venipuncture, catheter placement, injections, administering medications, and fluid therapy as directed by the veterinarian Monitor anesthesia, including patient vitals, anesthetic depth, and recovery, following hospital protocols and maintaining accurate records Perform dental scaling, polishing, dental radiographs, and assist with dental charting and oral surgery support Collect, process, and run in-house laboratory tests such as bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal tests, and cytology, and prepare samples for reference labs Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment, including digital radiography, dental radiography, and in-house laboratory analyzers Provide high-quality nursing care, including hospitalized patient monitoring, treatments, and pain management support under veterinary supervision Educate and communicate with clients about treatment plans, medications, post-operative care, preventative care, and wellness recommendations in a clear and compassionate manner Accurately maintain electronic medical records, treatment notes, and logs according to hospital standards Maintain cleanliness, organization, and infection control in exam rooms, treatment areas, surgery, and kennels, following hospital protocols Participate actively in a collaborative team environment, including case discussions, staff meetings, continuing education, and mentoring newer team members when appropriate Required Skills Small animal veterinary nursing (canine and feline) Safe animal handling and low-stress restraint techniques Venipuncture and IV catheter placement Administration of medications (oral, injectable, topical) Anesthesia monitoring and surgical support Veterinary dental prophylaxis and dental radiography Radiography positioning and safety In-house laboratory diagnostics (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis, fecal, cytology) Client communication and education Electronic medical records (EMR) use in a veterinary setting Infection control and hospital sanitation protocols Triage and basic emergency support skills Inventory handling and basic equipment maintenance
