Job Description

River Mill Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and dependable Veterinary Technician to join our team. Our Veterinary Technicians work closely with our veterinarian and support team to provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients while creating a positive experience for their owners. This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable with all aspects of veterinary patient care, enjoys working as part of a team, and takes pride in providing excellent client service. Responsibilities As a Veterinary Technician, you will: Obtain and accurately document patient histories and communicate pertinent information to the veterinarian. Assist with physical examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatments, surgeries, dental procedures, immunizations, and euthanasia. Collect and process laboratory samples and perform routine in-house diagnostic testing, including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and other laboratory procedures. Administer medications, vaccines, treatments, and fluid therapy as directed by the veterinarian. Prepare patients for surgery and assist with surgical procedures. Induce, monitor, and assist with anesthesia under the direction of the veterinarian. Monitor patients throughout procedures and recovery. Take and process diagnostic radiographs. Provide nursing care for hospitalized, injured, and ill patients. Safely restrain dogs and cats for examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures. Prepare, clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and medical equipment. Maintain treatment areas, equipment, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies. Accurately enter patient information, treatments, medications, and other medical information into the hospital's practice-management software. Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding medications, treatments, preventative care, nutrition, and veterinarian recommendations. Educate clients about preventative healthcare, including vaccines, parasite prevention, dental care, wellness testing, and other services that may benefit their pets. Work cooperatively with the veterinarian and all members of the hospital team. Follow hospital protocols and applicable OSHA, DEA, and veterinary regulations. Perform additional duties as needed to support patient care and hospital operations. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will have: Previous veterinary technician/assistant experience in a small-animal veterinary hospital. Strong knowledge of veterinary patient care, medical terminology, medications, preventative healthcare, and common canine and feline diseases. Experience with venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory procedures, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and patient restraint. Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize changes in a patient's condition. Excellent communication and client-service skills. The ability to remain organized and prioritize responsibilities in a busy veterinary environment. The ability to work independently while also accepting direction and working effectively as part of a team. Good judgment, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills. A professional, dependable, compassionate, and positive approach to both clients and coworkers. Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position. Veterinary Technicians must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequently bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and work in various positions while handling patients. Safely restrain dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments. Frequently lift, carry, or assist with animals weighing up to 50 pounds. Assist with handling larger dogs when appropriate team assistance is available. Veterinary medicine involves working closely with animals and may include exposure to animal waste, unpleasant odors, loud noises, infectious diseases, medications, controlled substances, and patients that may bite or scratch. Team members are expected to follow established safety procedures and hospital protocols at all times. About River Mill Animal Hospital River Mill Animal Hospital is a small-animal veterinary practice focused on providing personalized, compassionate care to our patients and their families.
