Neurology Location:
Columbus, MN About Us:
Minnesota Veterinary Neurology has been established to provide easy access to superior care for the small animal neurologic patients in Minnesota and the surrounding area. We are a privately owned hospital who cares deeply about our patients, our clients, and every one of our amazing team members.
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the practice manager and neurologist, the CVT will be responsible for the care of neurologic patients and clients. The CVT will assist the neurologist with examinations and prepare patients for procedures or surgery. The CVT will also perform diagnostics and treatments on neurologic patients and educate clients. This position starts in August 2026.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Manage drop off and scheduled appointments Record accurate medical and neurologic histories Assist neurologist with physical and neurological exams Review estimates with clients Perform venipuncture and proper restraint for neurologic patients Conduct in-house diagnostics using laboratory equipment, including manual tests such as platelet counts, white cell counts, and urinalysis Perform diagnostic radiographs Calculate, administer, and record injections, oral medications, fluid rates, and continuous rate infusions, including chemotherapy Set-up and break down for surgeries Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are sterilized and functional Accurately record and fill prescriptions Prepare animals for surgery and procedures (e.g., joint taps, cerebral spinal fluid taps) Properly handle and ship lab samples Educate clients on neurologic disorders and patient care Discharge patients from hospital Relay diagnostic results to clients after consulting with neurologist Answer client emails and calls Maintain hospital cleanliness, instruments, and equipment Schedule appointments Assist in euthanasia procedures Triage patients Support team development and train new team members Perform other job-related duties assigned by the practice manager or neurologist
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited school Certified in the state of Minnesota Basic knowledge of medications used within veterinary medicine Exhibit strong punctuality, time management, and prioritization skills Demonstrated ability to work both within a team and individually Proven ability to communicate respectfully, positively, and effectively with team members, referring clinics, and clients Exceptional problem-solving skills Skilled in digital record keeping methods and email Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned
Working Conditions:
3-day work week Thursday, Friday, Saturday 7am - 7pm Veterinary office environment Frequent interaction with animals and their owners Exposure to typical conditions and noises associated with veterinary care 4-day work week 30-minutes paid lunch break Participation in rotating holiday schedule and on-call (on-call Sunday 8am - 8pm) Team oriented and supportive environment Emphasis on work-life balance Possibility of working with species other than canine and feline Exposure to fractious animals and cytotoxic drugs Potential exposure to loud noise levels
Physical Requirements:
May experience long periods of standing and sitting Ability to lift 40lbs or more
Compensation and Benefits:
Hourly rate: $26-38/hr On-call fee: $150/case Holiday pay at time and a half Health, vision, dental, paid holidays, PTO including volunteer PTO, paid maternity leave, CE stipend, unform stipend, pet insurance reimbursement, 401K, STD, LTD, life insurance, employee discounts, family member bereavement including four-legged family members
