Job Summary:

The mission of the New Hampshire SPCA is to save the lives of animals through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption; to promote learning, eliminate animal cruelty and be a leader in advancing the highest standards in animal welfare. The Farm Animal Technician position provides animal care and monitoring to all farm animals and works with the Farm Animal team to ensure the needs of the farm animals are met.

Responsibilities:

1. Feeding of all farm animals following established protocols, including special feeding instructions. 2. Cleaning of paddocks, stalls and surrounding areas including scrubbing and refilling of water troughs and automatic waterers. Spot cleaning of animal and public areas throughout the day. 3. Grooming of farm animals. 4. Safe handling of farm animals using approved methods to mitigate fear, anxiety and stress. 5. Monitoring the health of the animals on a daily basis and immediately reporting any medical or behavioral concerns to the Farm Program Manager. 6. Understanding of all department standard operating procedures 7. Assist with routine medical treatments and behavioral training of farm animals as requested. 8. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. Prior experience with equines and farm animals. 2. Comfortable working in close proximity to large farm animals, including those without known histories who may exhibit extreme fear, anxiety, and/or stress. 3. Understanding of animal welfare best practices and equine and farm animal husbandry. 4. Work collaboratively across teams at the New Hampshire SPCA and cultivate positive working relationships with staff and volunteers. 5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Able to maintain composure during challenging and emotionally charged situations. 6. Display good judgement and work with colleagues, volunteers, and clients in an empathetic and supportive manner. 7. Able to manage multiple tasks, reprioritizing as needed. 8. Moderate to heavy work with variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and sitting. Able to engage in repetitive motion of legs, arms, and hands. Able to routinely lift 50 pounds or less. 9. Able to perform these duties in variant temperatures and elements including extreme heat, extreme cold and inclement weather. 10. 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license.

Pay:

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
