VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
Please Note that this position is provisional; all applicants must meet the following requirements: Be a Nassau County Resident Must take the Civil Service Examination when next offered and; Score high enough to be reachable on the established listGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Assists in providing veterinary medical services at a municipal animal shelter under the supervision of a licensed Veterinarian; performs related duties as required.COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the exercise of considerable judgment in assisting in providing veterinary medical services at a municipal animal shelter.TYPICAL DUTIES 1.
Assists in providing veterinary medical services at a municipal animal shelter. 2. Assists in diagnosing and treating sick and injured animals. 3. Assists in the performance of complex medical and surgical procedures as necessary, including but not limited to spaying, neutering, vaccination, and euthanasia. 4. Performs basic animal care routines. 5. Maintains sanitary conditions in the clinic and sterilizes equipment for treatment procedures. 6. Performs treatment procedures under the direct supervision of a Veterinarian, such as venipuncture and anesthetization. 7. Conducts established intake procedures for newly admitted animals. 8. Maintains records and prepares reports. •TYPICAL ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of veterinary medicine. 2. Knowledge of common diseases and afflictions affecting animals. 3. Knowledge of the administration and operation of an animal clinic. 4. Ability to assist in the performance of diagnostic, treatment and surgical procedures. 5. Ability to express oneself effectively, both oral and in writing. 6. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience Graduation from high school and Two years of satisfactory experience as a Veterinary Technician in a private practice, nonprofit, municipal or military setting. Necessary Special Requirement Continuing possession of a valid New York State Veterinarian Technician license and Continuing possession of an appropriate class, valid New York State Driver License.SALARY:
$64,114 annually / $30.82 hourlyPay:
