Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT) - Feline, Rabbit & Exotic Mammal Medicine | Long Island, NY About Our Practice We are a busy feline and exotic companion mammal veterinary hospital serving Long Island, NY. Our fast-paced practice focuses exclusively on cats and small mammals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, and other exotic companion species. We are committed to fear-free handling, exceptional patient care, client education, and a collaborative team environment. Position Summary We are seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or license-eligible veterinary technician to join our growing feline and exotic animal medicine team. This role offers hands-on experience in anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, critical care, exotic animal medicine, and advanced nursing care for both feline and small mammal patients. Schedule Full-Time Morning and evening shifts available Earliest start: 8:00 AM Latest end time: 7:00 PM Includes some weekends and holidays Veterinary Technician Responsibilities Administer medications, treatments, and supportive care to hospitalized feline and exotic mammal patients Perform venipuncture, blood collection, laboratory sample preparation, and diagnostic testing Place intravenous (IV) catheters and maintain fluid therapy protocols Assist with patient triage, nursing care, and inpatient monitoring Induce, monitor, and recover patients under general anesthesia Assist veterinarians with soft tissue surgery, dentistry, oral surgery, and emergency procedures Prepare surgical patients, instruments, and treatment areas using aseptic technique Obtain and assist with digital radiography (X-ray) and diagnostic imaging Perform safe, low-stress, species-appropriate restraint and handling techniques Fill and dispense prescription medications Educate clients regarding medication administration, syringe feeding, assisted feeding, subcutaneous (SQ) fluid therapy, postoperative care, and home nursing care Maintain accurate medical records Collaborate with veterinarians, assistants, and client service staff to ensure exceptional patient care Qualifications Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in New York State or license-eligible Minimum one year of veterinary technician experience preferred but not required Experience with feline medicine, rabbit medicine, exotic companion mammals, anesthesia monitoring, surgery, dentistry, or emergency care is a plus Strong communication, organizational, and client education skills Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment Benefits 401(k) Paid Time Off (PTO) Continuing education and professional development opportunities Hands-on training in exotic animal medicine Supportive, collaborative team culture Opportunities for career growth and skill expansion How to Apply Please submit your resume to: catnipandcarrots@yahoo.com
