ABOUT THE PRACTICE
We are a private, one-doctor Fear Free practice specializing in companion and exotic animal care. Privately owned means we do things the right way — no unnecessary overtime, no overloaded schedules, and genuine respect for your life outside of work. We are building something better in veterinary medicine, and we want technicians who are ready to work at the top of their skillset and grow with us. We see a wide range of species including dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish, small mammals, and invertebrates. If exotic medicine excites you, this is the right place.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Assist Dr. Head during examinations across all species, providing skilled restraint and hands-on technical support. Perform and monitor anesthesia for surgical, dental, and sedation procedures.
Prepare animals for surgery:
IV catheter placement, intubation, surgical prep, and connection to monitoring equipment. Assist with and monitor dental cleanings including radiographs, charting, and anesthesia. Obtain and process diagnostic radiographs with knowledge of proper positioning and technique. Collect, prepare, and run in-house laboratory samples: blood counts, urinalysis, fecal, cultures, and more. Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian. Fill prescriptions, measure and label medications, and initial completed labels. Record patient histories, vitals, and medical notes accurately; complete or update records within 24 hours. Create and present treatment options and estimates to clients in person, by phone, or by email. Accurately enter charges and process payments including cash, credit card, and CareCredit. Perform routine maintenance on laboratory analyzers, x-ray equipment, autoclave, and other diagnostic tools. Maintain clean exam rooms, pharmacy area, surgery suite, and treatment areas. Support reception during busy periods and follow all Fear Free check-in protocols. Administer emergency first aid and life-saving procedures under direct veterinarian supervision.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
1+ year of veterinary technician experience required; 2+ years preferred. Comfortable handling and restraining cats and dogs of all sizes and temperaments. Experience with exotic species (reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish, small mammals, invertebrates) is a plus but not required — we will train the right candidate. Hands-on proficiency with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical assistance.
Experience with in-house diagnostics:
bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal, and cytology. Accurate and timely medical recordkeeping in veterinary practice management software. Strong client communication skills — able to explain treatment plans, estimates, and discharge instructions clearly. Dependable, organized, and able to prioritize in a fast-moving environment. Fear Free certification a plus — paid training provided within 90 days if not yet certified. Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 lbs solo, and greater weights with team lifts; able to restrain patients on floor and table.
