Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Maintain the animal control center; clean and sterilize equipment and enclosures; and feed and care for animals.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS 1.
Reports to: Director of Animal Control 2.
Directs:
This is a non-supervisory position. 3.
Other:
Has contact with other county employees, animal shelters, local veterinarians and the general public
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
EXAMPLES OF WORK
  • Help prepare animals for rabies testing and transportation to lab.
  • Assist in the maintenance of animal holding facility, grounds, vehicle, and equipment in accordance with state regulations.
  • Assist in euthanizing stray and unwanted animals.
  • Care for animals, including feeding, watering, bathing and flea removal on a daily basis.
  • Clean and disinfect facility and animal enclosures on a daily basis.
  • Clean and disinfect food bowls, litter pans, and other equipment on a daily basis.
  • Routinely check inventory and submit supply orders to ACO Shelter Volunteer Coordinator as necessary.
  • Exercise and give attention to animals on a daily basis.
  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of :
  • Animal behavior;
  • Health regulations; city ordinances and state laws relating to animal control;
  • Equipment operations and record preparation.
Skill/Ability to:
  • Safely and properly handle and care for animals; Proper use of PPE (Personal Protection Equipment);
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, vendors and the general public;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication;
  • Maintain necessary certifications
  • Work flexible hours; that is, other than just Monday-Friday, 8-5 ACCEPTABLE
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
  • Current Texas driver's license

  • Work is performed primarily in an indoor and outdoor setting
  • In all weather conditions, including temperature extremes
  • Individual may be exposed to hazards associated with floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and fires
  • Potential exposure include smoke, noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, liquid chemicals, solvents and oils
  • The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles and pedestrians
  • And is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The noise level in the work environment is loud
