Full Job Description Position Overview:
Mountain West Veterinary Specialists - Bluffdale location is looking for full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery team. Applicants must have experience in all areas of anesthesia, monitoring anesthesia, knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and operating room preparation. Good communication skills and compassion is a must. Pay based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage assigned surgical cases from intake through recovery. Perform patient intake for surgical drop-offs, including reviewing and setting up diagnostics (bloodwork, radiographs, etc.) Prepare and initiate anesthetic protocols in collaboration with the attending veterinarian. Place IV catheters, draw blood, and administer pre-op medications. Oversee anesthetic monitoring and recovery for assigned cases. Ensure timely communication with doctors regarding diagnostic results and protocol confirmations. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness for surgical areas and equipment. Place IV catheters, perform wound care, and assist in resuscitation efforts when necessary. Collaborate with other technicians to manage workload and ensure smooth OR flow. Participate in post operative care, including suture removals, rechecks, and client communication. Actively support a culture of accountability, efficiency, and teamwork.
Qualifications:
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a veterinary setting, with prior surgery and anesthesia experience preferred. Proficiency in handling and restraining animals, as well as operating diagnostic and monitoring equipment. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Available to work (3) 13 hour shifts between Monday-Thursday. Sign up for minimum of (2) two on call shifts per month to support the hospital. Our team works 3 - 13 hour shifts each week. Many of our team members work a set schedule, allowing a work life balance on the remaining days of the week.
