Job Description

Position Summary:
The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of hydrovac trucks and equipment used in excavation, daylighting, and trenching activities for distribution, underground, and transmission projects. This role involves working in various outdoor environments to assist in locating utilities, digging trenches, and removing soil or debris with high-pressure water and vacuum systems. The Hydrovac Operator works under the direction of the Crew Supervisor and collaborates with different crews to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently. To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, each essential function satisfactorily.
Essential Functions:
Hydrovac Operation:
Operate hydrovac trucks and equipment to perform excavation, trenching, and daylighting tasks, ensuring the safe and efficient use of high-pressure water and vacuum systems.
Utility Locating:
Assist in locating underground utilities and pipelines to ensure safe digging and excavation around existing infrastructure.
Site Preparation & Cleanup:
Prepare job sites for excavation activities and ensure the work area is cleaned and cleared of debris upon completion of tasks.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure that safety procedures are followed during hydrovac operations to protect yourself, crew members, and the public.
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance checks on hydrovac trucks and equipment, including checking fluid levels, inspecting parts, and ensuring proper functioning. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the Crew Supervisor.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of work performed, including job site details, equipment usage, and any incidents encountered.
Communication:
Effectively communicate with the Crew Supervisor and other crew members to ensure the safe and efficient completion of tasks.
Support Crews:
Work with distribution, underground, or transmission crews to assist with various projects as required.
Other Functions:
Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge of hydrovac operations, safety practices, and equipment handling. Assist with other tasks and projects as directed by the Crew Supervisor. Work collaboratively with the team to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
Position Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required. Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record is required.
Experience & Skills:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating hydrovac equipment preferred. Experience in utility, construction, or excavation work is a plus. Proficient in operating hydrovac trucks and equipment. Knowledge of safe excavation practices, utility locating, and underground infrastructure. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and adapt to different weather conditions.

Frequent travel between job sites is required.
