Provide technical and medical support of animals; maintain facility, equipment, records and supplies. Assist with surgeries and treatment. Perform lab tests and communicate medical information to other staff and at times, the public. Oversee the care of the animals in the clinic; maintain a safe and sterile environment. Update and enter information into medical records. This role does not have direct or indirect reports. This position will report to the Clinic Supervisor.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
These tasks are illustrative only; to carry out the day-to-day functions of the job, other duties may be performed. Assist with patient handling and restraint for exams, diagnostics, and surgical preparation. Transport animals to and from surgery, recovery, and treatment areas safely and calmly. Set up and break down surgical and exam areas daily, including proper sanitation procedures. Administering vaccinations, medications, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian Maintaining accurate medical records Assist in surgery (Spay/Neuter, Dentals, Amputations, Emergency, Etc.) Monitor animals recovering from anesthesia and alert veterinary staff to any concern. Clean, prepare, and maintain surgical areas, kennels, treatment rooms, and equipment. Discharge all public animals and counsel owners on post -operation instructions. Restock medical and surgical supplies and maintain inventory as needed. Wash, dry, and fold all laundry throughout the day. Clean all surgical instruments. Assist in humane euthanasia procedures when directed. Ability to handle the public professionally and maintain a calm demeanor while enforcing county regulations regarding animal careNON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, ordering supplies, answering the telephone, etc.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be proficient with basic computer applications Must be able to complete tasks stated above without extensive training Minimum 1 year working in the veterinary medicine field Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse range of people and personalities Supports a non-judgmental approach to people, adopters, and the community Ability to be adaptive and responsive to evolving priorities Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Passion for animal welfare and the mission of the Pet Resource Center. Flexibility to work as needed, including some weekends.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, and hazards.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum requirements High school diploma or GED Minimum 2 year working in the veterinary medicine field with surgery specific knowledge and skills Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Responds in a timely manner with appropriate and accurate information Desired Qualifications Familiarity of Human Animal Support Services (HASS) values and elements. Minimum 2 years of previous work in the veterinary medicine industry. Certified in Humane Euthanasia, or ability to receive certification Highly developed emotional intelligence, ethical decision making, and capacity to navigate multiple interests to achieve positive outcomes Excellent written and verbal communication skills with teammates, volunteers and publicLICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System. Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina.Pay:
