The North Middlesex School District is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Varsity (JV) Boys Basketball Coach to lead and develop student-athletes at the JV level. The JV coach will serve as a key mentor, helping athletes transition from middle school or freshman-level play to the varsity program. The coach will emphasize skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic responsibility, while preparing student-athletes to contribute successfully at the varsity level. The JV coach will collaborate closely with the Head Varsity Coach, assistant coaches, and the Athletic Director to ensure program continuity and consistency in coaching philosophy, expectations, and culture.Key Responsibilities:
Player Development & Instruction Plan and conduct structured JV practices emphasizing skill development, basketball fundamentals, and understanding of team strategies. Provide individualized instruction and feedback to improve shooting, passing, dribbling, defensive positioning, footwork, and overall basketball IQ. Foster athlete growth by teaching resilience, leadership, teamwork, and discipline both on and off the court. Identify and develop players with potential to advance to the varsity program. Game Preparation & Management Prepare JV athletes for competition by creating lineups, rotations, and game strategies under the guidance of the Head Varsity Coach. Supervise and coach athletes during games, ensuring adherence to team principles, sportsmanship, and competitive effort. Analyze performance and provide constructive feedback post-game to help players improve and learn from each competition. Team Culture & Mentorship Promote a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture aligned with North Middlesex Athletics' core values. Serve as a role model by demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and respect for all participants. Support student-athletes' academic and personal growth by emphasizing the importance of balancing school and athletics. Encourage leadership and responsibility among JV athletes, fostering a sense of pride and commitment to the program. Collaboration & Communication Maintain regular communication with the Head Varsity Coach regarding player development, practice plans, and game strategy. Coordinate with parents, school staff, and administrators to ensure alignment between athletics, academics, and personal development. Participate in program meetings and planning to ensure JV and varsity programs are closely integrated. Safety & Compliance Ensure a safe practice and competition environment by adhering to all district, MIAA, and NFHS guidelines. Monitor athletes for health and safety, including concussion awareness, injury prevention, and proper conditioning. Maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, and concussion management training.Qualifications:
Required:
Experience coaching high school or middle school basketball, or strong playing experience at the high school or collegiate level. Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, JV-level strategies, and skill development techniques. Ability to motivate, mentor, and support student-athletes while maintaining program standards. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Must meet all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS coaching requirements.Preferred:
Previous JV or assistant high school coaching experience. Experience preparing athletes for varsity-level competition. Background in player development, strength and conditioning, or sports psychology.Salary:
