The Principal serves as a key member of the district leadership team and holds district-level Title IX Coordinator responsibilities. About La Veta School District RE-2 La Veta School District RE-2 is a small rural district located in the Spanish Peaks region of southern Colorado, serving approximately 200 students in grades K-12 across 224 square miles. The district also operates an early childhood program (preschool and daycare) serving approximately 28 children birth through age five, led by the Director of Early Childhood Programming. The K-12 Principal's scope begins at kindergarten. The district operates on a four-day school week (Monday-Thursday) and prides itself on personalized education, strong community connections, and a commitment to developing the whole child. The town of La Veta offers a vibrant arts community, abundant outdoor recreation, and a welcoming small-town atmosphere just 70 miles from Pueblo and 90 miles from Colorado Springs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Lead curriculum development and alignment to Colorado Academic Standards across all grade levels Drive implementation of the district's annual Instructional Growth Plan, with a 2026-27 focus on learning targets and success criteria embedded in daily instruction Monitor educator understanding and consistent implementation of Colorado Academic Standards Assess professional development needs and design relevant training in collaboration with the Teacher Leadership Team Lead school-level Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) development, implementation, and quarterly progress monitoring Analyze School Performance Framework andNWEA MAP
data (reported in grade bands consistent with district minimum-group-size policy) to inform instructional decisions Lead all-staff meetings and professional learning communities focused on teaching, learning, and data inquiry Oversee implementation of theC.L.A.W.S.
behavioral framework (Community, Leadership, Attitude, Work Ethic, Safety) in partnership with the Teacher Leadership Team Support the district's peer coaching pilot program, maintaining fidelity to a non-evaluative, growth-oriented model grounded in cognitive coaching frameworksTeacher Supervision and Evaluation Provide annual orientation to the Colorado educator evaluation system for all building staff Engage teachers and SSPs in self-reflection on professional practice and collaboratively set annual professional goals Finalize MSLs/MSOs with success criteria aligned to the Colorado Educator Quality Standards for each educator, consistent with the state's educator effectiveness framework Conduct ongoing, frequent classroom observations and provide timely, actionable, evidence-based feedback Conduct mid-year reflection conferences and end-of-year evaluations in compliance with district policy Support educators who need additional growth opportunitiesTitle IX Coordination Serve as the district's designated Title IX Coordinator, as required under 34 C.F.R. Part 106 and Colorado law Receive, investigate, and respond to Title IX complaints and reports of sex-based discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct involving students and staff Ensure district grievance procedures for Title IX complaints are current, Board-approved, and consistently followed Provide or coordinate annual Title IX training for all staff, students, and relevant board members Maintain accurate records of all Title IX complaints, investigations, and outcomes in accordance with applicable records retention requirements Coordinate with district legal counsel and the Superintendent on complex or escalated Title IX matters Monitor district compliance with Title IX obligations, including nondiscrimination notices, policy postings, and required designations Stay current on changes to federal Title IX regulations and CDE guidance, and advise the Superintendent and Board accordingly READ Act and Early Literacy Provide administrative oversight of READ Act compliance in coordination with the MTSS Coordinator, who serves as the district's primary READ Act Coordinator Ensure READ Act professional development requirements for K-3 educators, interventionists, and administrators are met in collaboration with the MTSS Coordinator Review READ Act data summaries prepared by the MTSS Coordinator to inform UIP development and instructional improvement decisionsKindergarten School Readiness Ensure all kindergartners have individual school readiness plans developed in collaboration with classroom teachers Support kindergarten teachers with plan implementation and identify staff training needs Collaborate actively with the Director of Early Childhood Programming on kindergarten readiness and transition, participating in formal handoff processes that bring developmental observations, early screening data, and family context into kindergarten planning Maintain an ongoing, collegial working relationship with the Director of Early Childhood Programming to align behavioral expectations, social-emotional learning goals, and curriculum progressions across the preschool-to-kindergarten boundaryAssessment Coordination Learn district assessment coordination systems under Director of Student Services mentorship in Year 1 Develop working knowledge of CMAS, CoAlt, ACCESS, PSAT, and SAT administration processes and timelines Assume full assessment coordination responsibilities beginning in Year 2 Policy Compliance and Graduation Requirements Ensure implementation and staff understanding of Board-adopted graduation requirements Oversee concurrent enrollment programming in accordance with Board policy (Section 4.11) and Colorado statute Ensure compliance with all relevant Board policies governing student programs and personnelStudent Services Coordination Coordinate with the Director of Student Support Services and the MTSS Coordinator on student intervention systems, 504 plans, health plans, and IEP implementation Participate in IEP meetings as a general education administrator as appropriate; the Director of Student Support Services holds primary supervisory and compliance responsibility for the special education program Ensure student behavioral supports are aligned across instructional and non-instructional settingsCommunication and Community Engagement Communicate regularly and transparently with families on building-level matters Maintain a visible, accessible presence through daily building walkthroughs and student interactions Lead student recognition and celebration activities aligned withC.L.A.W.S.
values Attend school events including games, concerts, and performances as a representative of school leadership Write college recommendation letters for students and support post-secondary transition planning Participate in emergency preparedness planning with the district leadership team Share responsibility for supervision of student events outside the regularly scheduled school day, assigned collaboratively and equitably among district leadership Required Qualifications Valid Colorado Principal License; required at time of hire Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field; required at time of hire Minimum three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience Demonstrated knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards and state assessment systems Strong written and verbal communication skills Commitment to collaborative, relationship-driven leadership Preferred Qualifications Administrative experience in a K-12 or small school setting Experience with teacher evaluation and instructional coaching Experience in a rural school community Background in READ Act implementation and early literacy instruction Experience withMTSS/RTI

The employee may also need to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The primary work location is the school building with regular presence in classrooms, common areas, and district facilities. Occasional evening and weekend attendance at school events is expected.
