• 2:30p and candidate should be flexible enough to occasionally cover weekends.

Arbuckle Memorial Hospital has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The task or duties assigned to this job could affect the safety and health of the employee or others.

Summary:

Collects Blood from patients in hospital following established standards. Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of the patient during the venipuncture process and quality of samples obtained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assembles equipment such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests or procedures. Verifies or records identity of patient or donor and converses with patient or donor to allay fear of procedure. Applies tourniquet to arm, locates accessible vein, swabs puncture area with antiseptic, and inserts needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube. Withdraws needle, applies treatment to puncture site, and labels and stores blood container for subsequent processing. Pricks finger or heel to draw blood. Maintains inventory of phlebotomy supplies. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge or Laboratory Information System order processing systems Education, Certificates, Licenses and Registrations High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); previous phlebotomy experience desired. One to three months related experience and/or training. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid driver's license. Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized board will be expected to be obtained if not already acquired.
