Job Description
Miller Yard Care & Construction is a family-owned landscaping, tree care, and construction company that has been serving the Detroit Lakes area and Becker County for over 13 years. We handle everything from irrigation and mowing to paver patios, retaining walls, shoreline restoration, and tree health — so our clients only need one call for all their property needs. We are looking for a foundational leader to build and run our landscaping division while also driving new sales and managing client relationships from the first conversation through project completion. This is not a crew lead job. This is a leadership role for someone who wants to take full ownership of a division — winning the work, running the work, and standing behind the results. What You'll Do Sales & Client Relations Meet with prospective clients on-site, assess their needs, and present solutions that match their property and budget Build and deliver proposals for landscaping projects including new yard installs, hardscapes, hydroseeding, sod, riprap, and shoreline restoration Serve as the main point of contact for clients throughout the entire project — providing updates, solving problems, and ensuring total satisfaction Follow up on leads from our marketing efforts (including direct mail, web inquiries, and referrals) and convert them into sold work Develop and maintain long-term client relationships that generate repeat business and referrals Full-Cycle Project Management Take ownership of all sold landscaping jobs from start to finish — material ordering, scheduling, logistics, and quality of finished work Manage permitting applications and coordinate with suppliers to ensure materials are on-site, correct, and on time Be responsible for job costing, material budgets, and the division's profitability Team Leadership & Development Manage, supervise, and develop all landscaping crew leads and technicians Train your team, hold them accountable, and make sure they have what they need to succeed Be on the ground — visiting job sites, catching problems early, and maintaining Miller's standard of quality What We're Looking For Hands-on landscaping experience (hardscape and softscape) with a track record of leading crews and managing projects Sales ability — comfortable meeting homeowners, walking properties, and closing work. You don't need a sales background, but you need to be someone people trust and want to do business with Exceptional organization — you can manage multiple projects, schedules, material orders, and client communications at the same time without dropping the ball Excellent communication skills — professional and clear with clients, crew members, and ownership A proactive self-starter who anticipates problems, finds solutions, and owns responsibilities without constant oversight Experience with landscaping tools and equipment, with the ability to train others Valid driver's license (required) Current DOT health card (required, or ability to obtain one) Why Miller Competitive base pay starting at $27+/hour with room for growth based on experience and results Full benefits: 401(k) matching, dental insurance, vision, paid time off Be a core part of a growing company that has been in the community for over 13 years — not a number at a national outfit Real ownership of your division's success, with the support of an established operation behind you This Role Is Not For Everyone This is not a helper position and it is not a place to coast.
