Job Description

The City of Cedar Falls is accepting application materials for a part-time Animal Welfare Specialist to work up to 29 hrs./wk., flexible shifts with varying workdays - evening hours required. Some on-call work may be required. Scheduled work hours to be discussed. This position is responsible for enforcing City laws and ordinances regarding stray, dangerous, nuisance, and unwanted domestic animals. This includes investigating complaints, capturing animals at large, and performing other duties as assigned related to humane domestic animal protection and control. This is a trained, specialized position performed as part of the Public Safety Services Department, under the direction of the Support Services Captain and has no supervisory responsibility. Equal Opportunity Employer Qualifications High school diploma, or equivalent, is required and at least one (1) year of experience with animals in a shelter or animal control function preferred OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience preferred but not required to complete the required duties. Computer data entry experience, possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and good driving record are also required. Possession of, or ability to obtain within the time parameters established by the City, the following certifications through
National Animal Control Association:
Animal Control Officer I (within first six months of employment) and Animal Control Officer II (within first year of employment). The selected candidate may also be required to obtain vaccinations and/or immunizations as a precaution to job-related hazards. Post-offer, pre-employment background, physical, and drug screen will be required for the selected candidate.
