https://tinyurl.com/y2ackv98 POSITION SUMMARY The Adoption Specialist is responsible to find good homes for dogs, cats, and other animals both at the shelter and at off site adoption events or in foster homes, while creating a positive experience for prospective adopters. Additionally, the adoptions specialist will advise people who are having a problem with their pet or wish to surrender their animal with the goal of resolving the situation in order to keep the pet in the home. This role will not have direct reports. This role will report directly to the Pet Resource Center Adoptions Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Conducts interviews with potential adopters to determine suitability Reviewing and processing adoption applications Ensuring all adoption paperwork is completed accurately and efficiently Providing information and counseling on animal care and behavior Participating in adoption events and outreach programs Maintain excellent verbal and written skills, including clear and effective communication with others (staff, public, volunteers) that is professional, respectful, positive and educational. Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; meets commitments. Assists with the promotion and marketing of our animals through photos, videos, and bios highlighting the individual's needs and qualities Prioritize exceptional customer service by ensuring reasonable wait times for potential adopters; adherence to dress code and professionalism; accurate and timely delivery of information to guests and maintaining a clean, healthy environment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Familiarity of Human Animal Support Services (HASS) values and elements. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS.

This is medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED 1 year animal related work experience (preferred but not required) Must value diversity and contribute to an inclusive work environment. Must have working knowledge of dog and cat handling and behavior, including pets with challenging temperaments and with severe health conditions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical ability to perform tasks such as cleaning, lifting, and walking. Ability to work under stressful conditions. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System. Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina.
