POSITION SUMMARY
Assist assigned judge in maintaining order and decorum in the courtroom, adjacent hallways and ascertain that the case being heard is not discussed with unauthorized persons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain order and maintain high visibility in the courtroom to prevent theft and vandalism. Maintain social distancing for people in the courtroom and hallways. Prepare, open and close assigned courtroom, ascertaining that room is clean and ready for the day. Swear in witnesses as required. Call recesses and adjournments as directed by the judge. Call witnesses, attorneys and other persons and make certain that they are available in the courtroom when required by the judge. Remain with the jurors throughout a trial and fill reasonable requests. Perform special projects for the judge or court administrator as assigned. Protect the jurors from any contacts and accompany them to eating and housing facilities as arranged by the court during capital cases. Assist in setting up exhibits during court sessions. Assist the Court in selecting jurors, sorting lists and make sure they are properly seated. Open and sort returned juror summons/questionnaires, if needed, as assigned and available whenever primary courtroom duties are completed or not needed. Report to court administrator or designee any problems that come to his/her attention regarding courtroom security or safety. Assure that the public does not wear inappropriate attire in the courtroom (i.e. hats) and that they do not touch the artwork. Obey all safety rules and regulations. Perform similar or related duties as required.
