Current Corrections Officer Certification issued by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) . Must be at least 18 years old and a United States Citizen (per
F.S. 943.13
). Possess a valid drivers license at the time of appointment and obtain a valid Florida drivers license within 30 days of hire. Criminal background check. Pre-employment and annual physical abilities test measuring balance, strength, endurance, agility, flexibility, and aerobic capacity.
Nicotine Policy:
Employees who use nicotine products must quit within one (1) year of hire as a condition of employment.
Emergency Duty:
Available for on-call duty during emergencies and activations. Work in confined spaces, variable temperatures, and under stressful or potentially hazardous conditions. Required Skills Knowledge of inmate behavior, attitudes, and patterns of conduct. Understanding of correctional facility rules, regulations, and procedures. Maintain order, discipline, and security within a detention environment. Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records. Communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Observation skills to identify potential safety or security threats. Respond calmly and effectively during emergencies. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers, other law enforcement personnel, and the public. Perform physically demanding tasks and working in high-stress conditions. Summary The County of Volusia is seeking Part-Time Certified Corrections Officers for the Corrections Division located in Daytona Beach, Florida This position is responsible for maintaining custody, control, care, and general welfare of inmates detained in County correctional facilities. This position is posted on a continuous basis and may close without notice. Responsibilities Admit and release inmates in accordance with established procedures. Escort, supervise, and monitor inmates to maintain order, discipline, and security. Conduct searches of inmates, cells, and common areas to detect contraband or unauthorized items. Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and security of assigned areas. Patrol cell blocks and perform periodic inmate counts. Supervise inmate work details as assigned. Respond to emergencies, disturbances, or unusual situations with appropriate action. Complete reports and documentation related to inmate intake, release, and incidents. Ensure accountability of tools, equipment, and facility resources. Interact professionally with inmates, staff, and visitors in accordance with department policy. Adhere to all Federal, State, County, and Local laws and departmental regulations. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Information Work Hours:
Part-time employees are expected to work between 20-30 hours per week.

Physical Demands:
Regularly lift up to 150 pounds, run, climb, kneel, crawl, and react quickly to emergencies.
