Job Description
A Correction Officer in a unionized facility maintains safety, security, and order while working in accordance with established policies, state regulations, and collective bargaining agreements. This role requires professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to balance facility needs with contractual rights and responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Monitor inmate activities and maintain the safety and security of housing units, grounds, and all designated areas. Enforce facility rules, procedures, and state standards while applying them consistently and fairly to maintain order. Conduct security rounds, inspections, and searches in compliance with departmental policy and union guidelines where applicable. Supervise inmate movement for meals, recreation, work programs, medical appointments, and visitation. Respond to incidents, emergencies, and disturbances using approved protocols and techniques. Document daily activities, incidents, and disciplinary actions with accuracy and professionalism. Escort inmates inside or outside the facility, adhering to safety protocols and contractual standards. Participate in intake, classification, and release processes while safeguarding inmate property and documentation integrity. Maintain clear, respectful communication with inmates, coworkers, and supervisors, supporting a positive labor-management environment. Follow all mandatory training requirements, including use‑of‑force, de-escalation, and compliance with negotiated work rules. Perform duties in alignment with the collective bargaining agreement, including seniority‑based assignments, overtime rules, grievance procedures, and dispute‑resolution processes. Required Skills and Qualifications Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support both inmate management and collaborative work with union and management staff. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure while following established protocols.. Attention to detail and adherence to policy, procedure, and contractual requirements. Ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays, consistent with seniority and scheduling provisions. High school diploma or equivalent.
