Primary Responsibilities Respond to fire scenes when necessary and assist in the documentation, collection, and preservation of evidence. May require an occasional overnight stay. Availability to gain fire scene investigation experience. Collect, package, and label evidence and prepare chain of custody forms (Evidence Transmittal Letter). Photograph evidence and coordinate with the fire investigator(s) to properly document evidence, including the location and condition of evidence. Coordinate with fire investigators to ensure the proper handling and processing of evidence. Assist in the transportation of evidence to laboratories or other storage facilities. Receive, catalog, and store evidence and materials collected from fire scenes. Maintain accurate records of evidence collection, chain of custody documentation, and storage locations. Organize and manage inventory of equipment, supplies, and materials. Assist in the packaging and shipping of evidence when necessary. Provide support to engineers and fire investigators as needed, including assisting with evidence analysis. Assist Engineers and Analyst in capturing evidence X-rays as needed during Lab exams. Clean and maintain equipment used in evidence collection, analysis, and documentation. Ensure that the warehouse and evidence storage areas are kept clean, organized, and secure. Perform routine inspections of equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs. Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. Ability to safely climb step ladders to access items stored at elevated locations within the warehouse. Maintain strict confidentiality on all case files and associated information and protect any/all sensitive information Maintain a valid driver's license. Safely operate company vehicles. Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure proper functioning. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- High School Diploma. Higher educate in Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation preferred
- Carpentry skills/experience preferred
- Valid current driver's license
- Strong communication, organizational, record keeping, time management and follow-up skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficient with standard office technology including telephone hardware and systems, document scanners, multi-function printer/copier, digital camera, projector, and other similar equipment
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency maintenance situations, summoning additional assistance as needed including nights weekends and holidays
